Reimagined book cover concept design + illustration for Into The Wild by John Krakauer.

This book examines the story of Christopher McCandless (aka Alexander Supertramp) - a young man who abandoned all of his worldly possessions in the early 90's to hitchhike across the United States in search of freedom from the conditions of modern life in favor of communion with nature - which ultimately led him to a fatal trip solo camping near Mt. McKinley in Alaska.

McCandless often used postcards to keep in touch with dear friends from his travels. I designed the book cover to feel like a weathered postcard from Alaska, complete with hand-illustrated trompe-l'œil stamp assets. For the title, I studied McCandless's handwriting to recreate an informed hand-lettered script.
